...the St. Patrons of Rome holiday. Which means, everything is closed except for some restaurants. We didn't go shopping for food yesterday; a customary thing to do the day before a holiday. Instead, we went to a small gathering of friends. Prior to the gathering, we went to see an apartment in Torpignattara. Torpignattara is probably most similar to the Lower East Side, minus the Roman Aqueduct. The name is derived from a structural technique used to lighten the weight of cement, where "terracotta" pots ("pignatte" in Italian) are used in the mix. Look closely at the picture here. At the top there are terracotta pots. BTW: This is the view from the apartment in Torpignattara.
